These Australian made and designed The Source Bulk Foods produce bags come prefilled with 1.3kg of our popular Australian Biodynamic Brown Rice and can be reused each time you return to your local store. This rice is grown and milled on a biodynamic certified family farm in Northern NSW.
Biodynamic farming is an enhanced method of Certified Organic farming that concentrates on enhancing soil, plant, and environmental health and vitality.
This brown rice is entirely rain-fed and grown without any input from flood irrigation. According to the CSIRO, up to 1550 litres of water is required to grow just 1 kilo of rice in Australia using standard farming practices.
This rain-fed rice represents a great water saving. With a delicious nutty flavour and aroma, this rice has a slightly chewy texture.
Medium grain brown rice is wonderfully versatile and can be served as a side dish, used to make homemade rice mylk, milled for flour, and in all your favourite recipes.
How to:
Flavoursome Medium Grain Rain-fed Biodynamic Brown Rice can be milled for fresh flour or used to make fresh brown rice mylk. For homemade dairy-free mylk simply presoak well-rinsed rice overnight, strain and blend with water (ratio 1:4). A little sweetener may be added – try honey, coconut nectar or vanilla. Once blended, strain through a clean cloth – squeezing the cloth out, then refrigerate.
Enjoy brown rice mylk in hot or cold beverages and in place of dairy milk in recipes. Biodynamic brown rice also makes delicious pudding, although it requires extra liquid and time to cook than white rice. Simply cook as you would oats for porridge, and when rice is soft and creamy serve with maple syrup and almond mylk. Great for breakfast or supper.
Serve this brown rice as an accompaniment to all your favourite curries, hotpots and savoury dishes.
It can also be used to create delicious rice balls and patties, pilaf, seafood paella, or fresh Mediterranean inspired salads.
