This Lupin, a member of the legume family, is grown and processed in Australia. It is GMO-free with no added preservatives. Lupin is an important part of crop rotation that is valued for the plant’s ability to aerate the soil and add nitrogen. It’s seasonally harvested, steamed and then simply rolled in a press to make these delicious flakes. Australian lupin flakes have a golden yellow colour, a slightly nutty flavoured and a subtle fresh aroma. Lupin flakes can be used in a myriad of ways, from breakfast to desserts, in baked and raw treats or savoury dishes, making them a very handy staple in the pantry.
How to Use:
At breakfast lupin flakes can be used to create your own muesli; either in a natural blend or oven-toasted in honey, maple syrup or apple juice for wonderful granolas. Add them to smoothies or make delicious warming porridge topped with chopped nuts and dried fruit.
Lupin flakes can be gently simmered in water or broth for just 3-5 minutes, or until soft, to accompany savoury dishes. Or add flakes 1:2 to rice or quinoa and cook using the absorption method. Mix 1-2 cups of these natural flakes directly into any hotpot, adding extra liquid for cooking as required. For extra flavour gently toast flakes over low heat before using.
Pre-cooked flakes can be used in place of chickpeas or lentils to create scrumptious dips. Or use in yummy burgers, veggie fritters, fish patties and falafels. Replace about 1/5 of the flour with these flakes for wonderful home-baked bread and muffins.
Combine with shredded coconut and maple syrup as an irresistible fruit crumble topping. Or use them in pancake batters, muesli bars, raw food snacks or desserts including energy balls and pressed pie-bases. A great gluten-friendly replacement for bread crumbs.
