Bourghal is made from wheat grains that have been steamed and cracked, then dehydrated. This Australian grown and processed fine Bourghal is preservative-free and non-GMO. With a subtle wheat flavour and aroma, Bourghal has a light, fluffy consistency and slightly chewy texture when prepared. Bourghal is a convenient ingredient to add to baked goods, salads and savoury dishes.
How to Use:
Bourghal is a traditional ingredient in Tabouli salad with parsley, tomato and lemon juice, or can be sprinkled over any salad or savoury dish. It is also a lovely addition to soups and hot pots. Use in place of rice to make a delicious pilaff; add to veggie or meat burger mixes, or add this cracked wheat to home-baked bread or muffin recipes.
Bourghal is very easy to prepare as it does not need to be cooked. Simply cover Bourghal with boiling water and let stand for about 45 – 60 minutes, fluffing occasionally with a fork.
When the cracked wheat is rehydrated with a slightly chewy, tender texture, drain any excess water and add directly to recipes or refrigerate for up to 2 days.
You can also add dried Bourghal directly to soups while cooking, with plenty of extra liquid for absorption.
Storage:
Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Refrigeration recommended in warm climates.
Shelf Life:
Up to 12 months when stored as above. See Best Before date.
