This is a common blend in Chinese and Taiwanese cooking and also Hawaiian dishes as it encompasses all five tastes being sour, bitter, salty, sweet and umami.

It pairs particularly well with rich meats such as pork and duck. Add it to casseroles, incorporate it into marinades, use as a spice rub and include when crumbing foods for frying.


How To Use:

To season grilled or roast meats, mix with oil and rub on about 20 mins before cooking. Sprinkle on to veggies, chicken or seafood while stir frying.

Toss pumpkin or sweet potatoes in a mix of 2 tbs olive oil, 1 tbs maple syrup, 1 tsp Chinese Five Spice, salt and pepper before roasting in the air fryer.

Make a condiment for the table by gently dry roasting the spice in a frypan over low heat with fine salt. Serve it in a shaker to add extra flavour to a meal.
