Ground cumin is made from the seeds of the Cuminum Cyminum plant, which is native to the Middle East and India. Cumin has been used as a spice for thousands of years, dating all the way back to ancient Egypt. It has a distinctive nutty, peppery flavour, and a warm aroma, that is well suited to curries and other savoury dishes. Cumin adds a nutty and peppery flavour to dishes and plays a role in Indian and Middle Eastern cooking.

How to Use:

Ground cumin is wonderful in Tex-Mex recipes and is an essential ingredient in garam masala mix. Gently roast in a dry pan on a low heat to release the flavour and aroma. Add cumin to spice blends for curries, soup and casseroles, or use in marinades for tofu, tempeh, chicken and meat. Include cumin in dry rub mixes for meat and vegetables.

Storage:

Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.

Shelf Life:

Up to 24 months when stored as above. See Best Before date.
