Ginger is in the family Zingiberaceae, which includes turmeric, cardamom, and galangal. Ginger originated in the tropical rainforests of India and Southern Asia. As one of the first spices exported from the Orient, ginger arrived in Europe during the spice trade. Today it can be found all over the world and in most household pantries. This dried and ground ginger powder has a warm, spicy flavour and aroma. It can be used to add depth to beverages, spice blends, sweet or savoury recipes, and home-baked treats.
