Mixed spice is a warm, mostly sweet spice blend of cinnamon, coriander, cassia, ginger and cloves. The term ‘mixed spice’ can be traced back to cookbooks from as early as the 1820’s. This versatile spice blend adds warmth and sweet spicy notes to any dish, and is used in sweet and savoury recipes.
How to Use:
Mixed spice adds a warm, sweet aroma and flavour to recipes. Include in pickles, chutney and curries. Add rich spicy notes to baked goods, including puddings, fruit cakes, nut loaves, apple or pumpkin pies, sweet buns and muffins. Delicious in stewed fruit compote, or mix a pinch of spice into cream cheese or nut butter for a tasty spread. Mixed spice is also lovely in herbal tea blends and mulled wine.
Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
