Quick and easy to prepare, this brown jasmine rice adds a wonderful flavour and aroma to sweet or savoury dishes. When cooked, it has a fluffy texture that separates well.
How to Use:
This brown jasmine rice is delicious with Asian inspired stir-fries, soups and curries. Create delectable rice balls or use it to add a unique flavour to paella and pilaffs. Once cooled, the separate grains are ideal for salads or fried rice.
For a quick, scrumptious rice pudding for breakfast or dessert, simply re-heat rice in dairy, oat or nut milk until creamy; with nutmeg, cinnamon and a dash of maple or coconut syrup. Serve as is, or with fresh berries, yoghurt or stewed fruit.
To cook delicious, fluffy jasmine rice either steam, boil or use the reduction method. Saffron is wonderful with this rice and can be added to the pot at beginning of the cooking process. To preserve the unique aroma of jasmine it is best not to salt cooking water – season if required after cooking.
Rinse rice, then add to boiling water (1:2) and simmer for about 15 minutes, or until tender. Remove from heat, drain, then leave covered for a further 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork. For reduction, fill cold water about 1.5 cm above rice and simmer, covered, until water has evaporated, about 18 minutes. Let stand for further 5 minutes, fluff and serve.
