From the unpeeled root of a plant, use marshmallow root to make soothing hot or cold herbal drinks, add it to food or use as an infusion in homemade skin and hair products.
Marshmallow root contains fibre which swells when soaked and was traditionally used to relieve mild ailments and digestive inflammation.
How To Use:
Add 1 – 2 tbs of dried marshmallow root to 1 cup hot water and let stand for at least 5 mins to make a soothing tea.
Another method is to bring marshmallow and water to the boil in a small pot. Simmer 20 mins. Strain and sweeten, if desired. Try adding slippery elm, peppermint or a relaxing chai blend.
A cold infusion can be made which will be more gelatinous. Add 125 mL marshmallow root to a 500 mL jar then top up with water. Let sit for at least 4 hours. Strain and serve.
