Pearled barley is barley grain that has been processed to remove the outer hull and bran. This Australian grown and processed Pearl Barley is Certified Organic, has no added preservatives and is non-GMO. Organic Pearled Barley is a hearty, tasty grain with a light nutty flavour and delightful chewy texture. It is great in soups, hotpots and stir-fries.
How to Use:
It is not necessary to pre-soak Pearled Barley however, it does require a good quantity of liquid when cooking. If including barley in soups or hotpots, add it at the beginning of the cooking process with 3-4 cups of water or stock and allow approximately 45 minutes cooking time. To cook pearled barley as a side dish, simmer 1 cup of barley and 3 cups of water or stock, covered on a low heat for about 45 minutes.
When barley is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed; fluff grains with a fork, and serve with curries and stir-fries. Pre-cooked Barley can also be used in salads and as a savoury filling for stuffed capsicums.
Storage:
Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Refrigeration recommended in warm climates.
