Steel cut oats are made from the whole oat grain, also known as groats, including the bran. Only the outer husk is removed before the groat is sliced into small pieces with a steel blade. These Australian grown Oats are raw and unrefined and Certified Organic. Organic Steel cut oats have a fresh whole grain aroma and flavour. They can be used for traditional porridge, added to baked goods or in savoury recipes.
How to Use:
Steel Cut Oats are slower cooking than rolled oats, usually taking 20-30 minutes. To shorten cooking time these oats can be soaked overnight in water with 1-2 tbsp. of lemon juice or cider vinegar.
After soaking, drain the oats and add them to an equal amount of fresh water. Bring to the boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for about 5 minutes.
Take off the heat and leave to cool for 5 minutes before adding your favourite natural sweetener and dairy. Cinnamon and a pinch of salt can also be added after cooking.
Organic Steel Cut Oats add extra texture to home-baked bread, muffin and biscuit recipes. They can also be added to soups and hotpots or served in place of rice.
Storage:
Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Refrigeration recommended.
Shelf Life:
